Nail Art #3: Jackson Pollock Mardi Gras
Happy Mardi Gras!
I need a better macro lens. :-/ |
This nail art started out with the intention of being neat little stars, but I was in such a hurry that the stars turned out more like fireworks. I call this a success anyway! Proof that you can still get a cool look without too much time and effort.
The steps:
- Base coat of purple nail polish
- Acrylic paint and a tiny brush: one green star on each nail, along with little rays coming off the star
- Same tiny brush, two acrylic yellow stars with rays
- Clear nail polish to seal.
In case you weren't aware, purple, green, and yellow are the Mardi Gras colors. Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" because it's the day people indulge in all the things they won't be able to eat during Lent, the period of fasting before Easter, which starts the day after Mardi Gras. I'm technically a Methodist but the whole giving things up for Lent was never drilled into me (sorry Mom), but Mardi Gras is still a fun time to celebrate!
What's not fun is getting denied a public transit bus because the bus company thinks you're one of the loud drunk college kids crowding around the bus. After the parade (Burlington rarely does their parade on actual Mardi Gras and held theirs this past Saturday), I tried to take the bus home. They let about three people on the bus and then declared it "full" and left, leaving many actual drunk college kids very loud and upset on the curb. I can see where the bus company was coming from, but they left behind a lot of other people too. I am several years past college, have never had alcohol in my life, have a steady job, and needed to get home to meet people by a deadline. Thankfully my generous sister in law was willing to come give me a ride.
The parade was great fun though, and I saw two Akita breed dogs. I had never seen the Akita breed before; they are beautiful and huge!
My previous nail art adventures, for reference: Fourth of July and Island Sunsets.
What should I paint on my nails next?
